Pre-Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy programs do not typically require a specific major. However, pre-physical therapy students at Mayville State University typically major in our Allied Health degree. This major is designed to prepare students for advanced study in several allied health programs and professional schools, combining curriculum from biology, chemistry, physics, allied health, and health and fitness.

Each physical therapy program has its own undergraduate requirements, and so it is important to identify the physical therapy program or programs to which you plan to apply. In addition to working with your Mayville State Academic Advisor, you should work with an advisor from your physical therapy school(s) of choice for specific requirements.

Students should consider these common requirements during their undergraduate studies:

- Academic prerequisites for your preferred graduate level program(s).

- Maintaining a competitive GPA.

- Participate in extracurricular and community activities to develop and demonstrate teamwork and leadership skills.

- Documentation of volunteer or observation hours with an PT.

- Work closely with advisors, faculty, and mentors who can help guide you through the process.

- Some graduate schools may require completion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).  Preparation for the GRE, if required, should begin during your junior year.

Students who declare a Pre-Physical Therapy area of study are placed into the Allied Health major. If you wish to review or change your major or choice of pre-professional area of study, please work with your advisor.
