EDUC 381 Human Relations and Cultural Diversity

This course engages students to analyze the socio-cultural dimension that influences the educational process for individuals based on ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, gender, exceptionalities, language, religion, sexual orientation, and geographical area. Teacher candidates will learn to assess, plan, and implement teaching strategies to meet the needs of students from diverse backgrounds and differing value systems in an attempt to better understand the socio-cultural behaviors and characteristics of different cultural and ethnic groups to provide a supportive educational environment. Students will be required to participate in several on and off-campus experiences throughout the fall and spring semesters. Students will be required to participate in a cultural activity of their choosing Summer semester. Prerequisite: EDUC 250.
