ENGL 317 Children's Literature and Media

Through a survey of preschool-pre-adolescent literature and media, this course identifies literary genre and format characteristics, highlights current and historical works and authors in relation to historical and societal events, establishes criteria for evaluating books and media, and nurtures an awareness and consideration of how children's developmental and cultural needs affect their literature responses. Students will engage with literary theory to select, interpret, and evaluate works based on children's needs and interests.
