Sport Coaching B.S.
The Sport Coaching major is designed to provide students with the conceptual and experiential practices related to coaching and athletics. The program is designed to offer instruction and experiences including, but not limited to: current issues and challenges facing coaches, substance abuse prevention training, budgeting, recruiting, overall management of a team, coaching certification, sport psychology, sport sociology, Title IX in sport, athletes' perceptions of their performance, training for performance, leadership skills and techniques, team discipline, communication, scheduling, and program reviews. This program is also designed to help students become familiar with coaching as a profession, its associated expectations, and with the intention of preparing students for graduate level education programs that are often required of coaches working in the college ranks. Students interested in pursuing coaching in the K-12 setting are encouraged to pursue the Coaching minor and the Physical Education B.S.Ed. or other education degree based disciplines of their choice.
Students majoring in Sport Coaching are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to pursue a double major with either Fitness & Wellness or Sport Management.
