First Year Student Requirements

 

In order to be considered for admission, freshmen applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • A cumulative high school grade point average of at least 2.0 and completion of College Prep Core Requirements.

The North Dakota University System College Preparatory Core Requirements include the following:

        4 units of English
        3 units of Mathematics (Algebra I and above)
        3 units of Laboratory Science
        3 units of Social Studies 

The following high school courses are strongly recommended:
  • Algebra II (advanced algebra)

  • 2 units of a single classical or modern language, including American Sign Language and Native American Languages.

Applicants who have completed college credit in high school shall submit official college transcript(s) for each institution attended.

Exceptions:

  • Applicants age of 25 or older on the first day of class are exempt from the high school core course requirements.
  • Applicants who do not meet the GPA and core course requirements are encouraged to apply and their application will be reviewed individually and more comprehensively. In addition to the requirements, Mayville State University may evaluate other criteria, such as:
    • Difficulty of coursework (including AP, IB, Honors, or dual credit),
    • GPA in high school core classes,
    • Grade trends,
    • Essay/personal statements,
    • Recommendation letters, and
    • Background, skills, and experiences.
  • Applicants with GPAs below these standards, may be required to participate in provisional and/or credit hour limits to support students academically during their first year of enrollment.

 

Applicants should consult their school counselor or the Office of Admissions regarding acceptability of high school credits.
