HIST 339 United States and the Vietnam War

This course emphasizes the study of the Vietnam War with special emphasis on the views of the war from the North Vietnamese and American side. The course begins by studying Chinese imperialism in Vietnam and then moves to French control of the area. The second phase traces U.S. becoming involved in Vietnam and the quagmire that is known as the Vietnam War. The course concludes with the U.S. withdrawal, the fall of Saigon and the current situation in Vietnam. There will be discussion of the military side of the war and how it related to the political decisions made by all sides. Pre-requisite: ENGL 120 or instructor consent.
