Commencement Requirements
Application for graduation must be filed with the Registrar during the semester previous to the term in which the student expects to graduate. The deadlines for applying are listed on the academic calendar at the front of this catalog. The Academic Records Office will audit the academic records of students expecting to graduate during the semester prior to graduation and will inform the student and his/her advisor of any remaining requirements before registration for the final semester. The Degree Audit is used for advising purposes and becomes an official document when signed by the Registrar.
Candidates for Spring Commencement are students who have completed graduation requirements in the preceding Fall Semester, current Spring Semester and Subsequent Summer Semester. Candidates for graduation are encouraged to attend their commencement ceremony. The event is held once a year at the end of each spring semester on the Saturday after finals week in the middle of May, at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
The ceremony honors the achievement of students who have completed an associates, baccalaureate or master’s degree program; no formal ceremony is offered for students completing certificates. Those candidates in attendance of the ceremony will not receive the official diploma. Diplomas will be sent to the address provided on the graduation application upon degree completion. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that this address is correct.
A Student’s participation in the commencement ceremony is contingent upon their ability to meet the following requirements:
- a completed application for graduation;
- an approved graduation audit by the Office of Academic Records; and
- the completion of all program requirements in the preceding fall, current spring and subsequent summer semesters.
Students will receive an email with information regarding participation in commencement.
