HIST 423 Global Economic History

This course explores the emergence of a global economy and the causes of global disparities in wealth. Intensive readings and discussion examine the economic rise of the West from circa 1500, the development of the global petroleum industry, including its impact on the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia in the twentieth century and aspects of the contemporary world economy. Prerequisite: HIST 211 or HIST 104 or instructor consent.
