Academic Honors

Dean’s List

Mayville State University recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement by naming them to the Dean’s List. To qualify, a student must earn a semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 scale while completing a minimum of twelve (12) graded credits in a term from Mayville State University.

Eligibility for the Dean’s List is based solely on academic performance, with grades reviewed by the Registrar at the end of each semester. Students with an “Incomplete” in any graded course are not eligible for consideration in that semester. Pre-college courses, including ASC 86, ASC 92, and ASC 93, do not count toward the Dean’s List.

Core courses required for an MSU-approved program that are only available through a collaborative institution are included in the twelve (12) credit minimum and are factored into GPA calculations for Dean’s List eligibility.

Commencement Honors

Mayville State University recognizes three levels of academic distinction at the spring commencement ceremony:

Cum Laude 3.50 - 3.69
Magna Cum Laude 3.70 - 3.89
Summa Cum Laude 3.90 - 4.00

To qualify for honors designation, students must complete a minimum of two semesters and 30 semester hours in residence at Mayville State, with honors determined based on the cumulative GPA. For students pursuing a second degree, honors are calculated based on grades earned after the conferral of the first degree.

For publication purposes, commencement honors for spring graduates are determined after the fall semester. However, the final transcript for all baccalaureate graduates will reflect the appropriate honors designation.
