HPER 305 Sport Ethics

Students will examine the conceptual framework for ethical decision-making using sports as the prism to analyze various viewpoints.  Varied ethical perspectives will be analyzed through the conflicts presented in sports-related contexts. Any individual involved in athletics will, at some time, face difficult decisions and dilemmas, often with moral implications.  Therefore, it is critical for these stakeholders to explore their ethical concepts and be able to apply these principles in moving toward educated decisions and policy development.  This course will challenge you to examine those ethical issues central to contemporary sport.  Recognizing moral questions and understanding ethical theories will assist the student to make informed and principled decisions.  With sports being such a pervasive and powerful part of American society, an appreciation for philosophic inquiry and discourse is an important attribute for anyone invested in athletics.
