EDUC 436 Kindergarten Methods

This course emphasizes scientifically-based, evidence-based, and research-based best practices for instruction in the kindergarten classroom. Teacher candidates explore developmentally appropriate classroom materials, demonstrate skills in student assessment (i.e., reading ability, readiness, observations, and checklists) and use of research-based instructional strategies to teach early literacy (phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension), science, mathematics, arts, music and movement, and social studies. Teacher candidates will develop and implement lesson plans that support differentiated instruction and child-directed activities for kindergartners. Prerequisite: EC 210 and EC 211 or EDUC 250.
