Biotechnology Certificate Program

the Certificate in Biotechnology program is developed for students with a high school transcript or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). After completion of this certificate program, students will be qualified for many entry level positions either in medical hospital or clinic setting, or biotechnology based industries.  Alternately, those with prior experience and/or education can use the certificate as a bridge to increasing demonstrated qualification for more advanced positions. This program will prepare a student in little under a year with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in these emerging fields.

The program includes classroom courses in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Cell/molecular Biology, followed by laboratory course teaching necessary technique proficiencies needed in the analyses and utilization of biological subjects for industrial uses. Students will be trained in laboratory skills in culturing and identifying of disease causing microbes, working with nucleic acid and protein analyses, plasmid isolation and gene cloning, and hands on experiences in phlebotomy.

The certificate program requires to complete a minimum of 12 credits. The students in the biotechnology program will be required to maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher and no course with lower than a C will be applied towards certification. The courses included in the certificate program may be used to fulfill the department major requirements.
