ENGL 351 British Literature I

Beginning with Beowulf and concluding with the Augustans and Jane Austen, a chronological survey of the development of British literature, focusing on canonical works by women as well as men, read in their entirety, and providing historical and cultural contexts. Texts investigated include ones liable to be taught on the secondary level, making the course valuable for prospective teachers. Prerequisite: ENGL 120 or ENGL 125, or consent of instructor. Fall, even years.
